The article considers Fyodor Dostoevsky’s story “The meek” in the context of the question of suicide. The theme of suicide is present throughout Dostoevsky’s work and is never an unambiguous phenomenon in it. The clarification of the metaphysical principle gives an impulse for destructive action, since this is the only suicide of Dostoevsky who has a witness. The suicide demonstrates the most spectacular and strongest proof of the impossibility of achieving a dialogue. By suicide of “The meek” Dostoyevsky poses a metaphysical question, to which he does not give an answer. The author believes that the heroine of the story goes to the Otherworld as a Christian, not reconciling with the cruel fate that befell her and which obliged her to serve the mammon along with her husband-cheating.
