E. G. Kazakevich’s long short story "The two in step": the fabula as a narratological problem

The author of the article analyzes the structural whole of the fabula of an epic work from the narratological viewpoint: first, as a means of exposing, filling and coordinating three basic elements: situations, characters, and actions; second, as a mechanism of turning events into a story. As historical and literary material, the long short story The Two in Step by E.G. Kazakevich was chosen. It is interesting not only because it took a special place in the writer’s war prose, but also because it was a quarter of a century ahead of its time in terms of the forming tradition of war epos.
