The paper considered some problem-raising aspects of exploring a casual suit. Attention has been focused on the historical aspect of studying a casual suit of the turn of the XIX to XX centuries considering this artifact as a source for details on the period past. Major approaches and trends in studying garments have been determined, both for studies from abroad and in Russian research.
