The improvement of labour safety of livestock workers

Livestock industry is one of the most difficult, harmful and traumatic activities. The occupational risk assessment contributes to effective work to improve labor safety. The research was carried out in the Joint-Stock Company "Zarya" in the Kolpnyansky district of the Orel region. The aim of the research was to study the occupational risk for the livestock workers in JSC "Zarya" of the Orel region. The object of the study was the occupational risk for the workers who have direct contact with animals. The subject of the research was the identification of hazards and the assessment of the occupational risk for livestock workers. The objectives of the research included the identification of hazards that threaten the life and health of the workers in the livestock industry; the development a complex of measures to improve labor safety, eliminate or reduce the level of the occupational risk. Theoretically, the hazards specific to the live-stock industry were identified. Practically, a complex of measures to eliminate or reduce the level of the occupational risk of workers who have direct contact with animals was developed. The risk assessment and management procedure were carried out according to the methodology provided by the Regulations on Occupational Risk Management in JSC "Zarya". When studying 67 workplaces, which employ 103 people, 180 hazard factors were identified and recorded. According to the results of the study, for seven professions (positions) of the workers who have direct contact with animals, a complex of measures to improve labour safety, eliminate or reduce the level of occupational risk was developed. The indepth comprehensive approach to the identification of hazards and the development of measures to eliminate them or reduce their levels makes it possible to improve the attractiveness of jobs in the livestock industry, reduce staff turnover and bring the organization of labour protection to a higher level.
