The article focuses on the description of the conceptualized author position. The study’s object is fantasy novels “Labyrinths of Echo” by Max Frei. Max Frei is the pseudonym of Russian-speaking authors S. Martynchik and I. Stepin. The conceptualized author is consciousness, mediated by a work of art, embodied by correlating the text passages with the subjects of speech to whom the text is attributed (formally-subjective organization), and the subjects of consciousness whose consciousness is expressed in the text (content-subjective organization). The position of the conceptualized author is determined by the main task of the author's work – the creation of a literary hoax. The character-writer presence builds the work’s structure as a «text within a text», which suggests that the series «Labyrinths of Echo» is a variant of the meta-prose. The novelty of the study is the fact that the works of Max Frei, being a vivid example of Russian fantasy, are considered in the context of postmodern approaches due to the general socio-cultural context: both Russian fantasy and Russian postmodernism were developed in the 90s of the XX century. Thus, as a hypothesis of the research, it is suggested that the position of the conceptualized author is determined within the framework of the postmodern game. This consciousness models a new reality based on a postmodern game. As a result, the idea is put forward that consciousness mediated by text allows to create a new model of reality based on a postmodern game.
