Positioning of the federal districts of the Russian Federation according to the level of socio-economic development in order to develop a strategy for adapting the national economy to external challenges

The article assesses the level and dynamics of territorial asymmetry in the Russian Federation based on calculating the range of variation indicator for the period 2010-2020. Based on a group of indicators of economic and social development, as well as the level of digital development of organizations, it is concluded that there is a significant difference in the levels of socio-economic development of federal districts. Using official statistical data, the federal districts of the Russian Federation are ranked using the sum of places and the distance method. Positioning of federal districts by level of socio-economic development can be used in strategic planning to develop a strategy for adapting the national economy to external challenges, since such ranking makes it possible to assess the position of each federal district, highlight its strong and weak indicators in order to further eliminate imbalances and attract attention authorities to develop management decisions that contribute to the balanced development of the country.
