Pragmatic potential of Chinese proverbs and sayings in American verbal culture

The article deals with pragmatic functions of borrowed Chinese paroemias found in American mass and social media discourse. In a new communicative environment these proverbs and sayings fulfill functions that have to deal with their intertextual nature. By creating a link to the realities of Chinese culture Eastern proverbs and sayings act as “windows” to Asian culture and help Americans see the peculiarities and uniqueness of Chinese worldview.
