The article reveals the compelling problems and contradictions of forensic science. It reveals some topical areas of forensic research. The author makes the case for updating forensic research and strengthening their links with practice, as well as the prospects for the creation and use of forensic algorithms as one of the mechanisms that ensure the possibility of using the results of forensic research in the practice of crime investigation.
