Purpose: To study the historical and legal features of land and property relations in St. Petersburg in the XVIII - early XX century. Methodology: We used a formal legal method, a comparative analysis method, a historical legal method. Results: The author refers to an interesting and relevant topic - the historical and legal aspect of land and property relations in St. Petersburg, which was in the XVIII - early XX centuries. the capital of the Russian Empire. In the article features of formation of the land right and land use in the Russian empire are considered, the basic attention is given to questions of formation of urban land use and land management in XVIII-XIX centuries. The author outlines the main problems of the legislative regulation of land use and land and property relations in the cities of the Russian Empire and in St. Petersburg in particular. It is concluded that up to the beginning of the twentieth century. Numerous gaps and contradictions were present in the legal and regulatory provision of land and property relations in the Russian Empire, which played a negative role in the management of land property. Novelty/originality/value: The scientific significance of this article is due to the relevance and importance of the topic touched on in it, practical significance - the possibility of using the results obtained to comprehend the processes currently taking place in the field of land law and the management of land and property relations processes.
