Holiday as a phenomenon of culture

The article considers the phenomenon of holiday, its functions are revealed, the typology is highlighted, content conditionality by historical and cultural society realities. The author pays special attention to the holiday significance in the polyethnic region, namely in the Republic of Buryatia, notes some new tendencies of the holiday calendar.
