The paper presents the historical and cultural analysis of the tradition of New Year celebrations in the Russian Federation. The authors define the national features of celebrating the New Year in Yakutia, among which highlight the national characters (Ehee Dyyl, Khaarchaana and Chyskhaan), representing the masters of the Yakut cold. The authors trace the presence of several cultural layers in the modern tradition of celebrating the New Year: practices determined by the influence of world traditions, Russian and national (depending on particular region) customs.
