The given literary work refers to the period of post-modernism, which is characterized by intertextuality, rethinking of cultural elements of the past, uncertainty and fragmentation. The novel of Christa Wolf “Medea” is characterized by these types of intertextuality such as intertextuality itself, archtextuality and paratextuality. The main forms of intertextuality in the novel are citation and allusion. There are the following precedent phenomena: precedent text, precedent names, precedent situation, precedent images. Case phenomena have a function of creating a historical and local color, and styling feature of the genre. Comparative analysis of the text of the novel with the prototext reveals both coincidences and discrepancies compared to the original sources, resulting in a taped polemic character of the contents of the novel in relation to the primary sources and critical attitude to modern reality.
