"Cultural studies" in secondary education in the Netherlands

The author provides general view of the subjects of Arts and Culture at secondary schools in the Netherlands. It focuses on the curriculum of Culturology, one of the obligatory subjects of the senior pupils. Basic principles that form the curriculum as well as specific accents on the differentiation of education are described. Special attention is given on four main domains that determine qualitative level of knowledge and skills of the pupils by the end of their education.
