Background of the origin and history of the development of the Belarusian council of orthodox churches in Norht America in 1950-1976

The history of Church life of post-war Belarusian émigrés, up to the present, remains practically unexplored. Unfolded in the second half of the 1940s. the confrontation between the followers of the Belarusian People’s Republic and the Belarusian Central Council, the two political centers of the Belarusian diaspora, led to a church schism. The consequence of the implementation of the Belarusian People’s Republic confessional policy was the emergence of the non-canonical Belarusian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. The leadership of the Belarusian Central Council initially supported the initiative of the transition of Orthodox Belarusians to the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, but since 1950 it has revised the strategy of its religious policy. With the direct participation of political leaders of the BCR during the 1950s and 1960s. the opening of Belarusian parishes in the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople took place. The logical consequence of the development of these processes was the formation in 1970 of the Belarusian Council of Orthodox Churches in North America, which became an autonomous structure within the American Archdiocese of the Patriarchate of Constantinople...
