The paper shows how modern high school students perceive political reality and how they determine their place in it. The main conclusions of the study are based on a sociological survey of senior schoolchildren conducted in Ulan-Ude and interviewing subject teachers. The reasons for political absenteeism and the lack of political knowledge about the regional political system, the authors attribute to the fact that modern schoolchildren are more oriented towards obtaining the knowledge necessary for successfully passing the examination tests in the form of the unified state examination. It is clear that the lack of a regional component of political knowledge in the school curriculum leads not only to gaps in knowledge, but also contributes to the formation of absenteeism among the senior schoolchildren of the city of Ulan-Ude.
