“The sweet dream” of Institute of Art History: on the history of the unrealized project of the roman branch (pt. 1)

The article is devoted to the unrealized project of a branch of the Institute of Art History (Petrograd) in Rome. In the early 20th century, the practice of creating foreign institutes of archaeology and art history became quite widespread. They were research institutions, but they also made a certain contribution to the protection of cultural heritage. Based on materials from a number of St. Petersburg archives, the author of the article reconstructs the details of this project.
