The article reviews the play »Haiyraan bot» (‘Oh, my hapless life’) written in 1965 by V. Kok-ool (19061980). The play plot consists of versions of the legend about a girl who threw herself down from a rock escaping marriage to unloved man. The playwright used few versions of the Tuvinian folklore legend. The using of folklore legend in artistic piece adds national color which, due to creative approach, leads to philosophical, human meaning. The author claims that this play is a good example of basing on folklore and at the same time deviation from it, because the Tuvinian writer masters realistic narration and understanding of causal-investigatory connection in heroes’ actions. High spirituality of the legend and its absolute meaning raise life and social problems to the height from which ethnographic details are lightened with a light of philosophical world perception.
