Inner transfiguration that occurred with the captain, made possible by a sophisticated internal spiritual work, the power of aspiration to God, opening their own personality and full surrender into the hands of God. This way is seen by the author as the only possible, but the main thing here is the fact that it is possible. The culmination of the story is the vision of the captain of the crucified Christ. And the hero after this vision is not afraid to die, because it becomes clear that he has been forgiven. In the story, on the one hand, the death of a man is presented, but the main thing is not death itself, but rather the new state that enabled the hero to find peace. For Zhukovsky worldly (temporal) life is a preparation for eternal life. The story gives everybody the hope and approves the possibility of salvation.
