The problems of adaptation of first-year students to the educational and social environment of the university are considered. The ways of their solution are discussed on the example of teaching foreign languages. It is shown that for all the complexity of these problems, there are empirically proven approaches and teaching methods that help students to get comfortable in new conditions for them. In the practical activities of universities, the course of facilitating (facilitating) adaptation is justified, which should be carried out by educational and methodological units and departments in a specific methodological manner, taking into account the individual abilities and qualities of students.
