The article gives major biographical details of the thirty seventh President of the USA Richard Nixon (1969-1974), and presents a brief analysis of his political career. Supported with arguments the paper examines the origin, sources and peculiarities of the "Watergate scandal", which led to his downfall and dramatic resignation. The article also highlights Nixon's post-presidential literary and public activity. In context of the ex-president's last (the tenth) visit to Moscow in 1994 some "national peculiarities" of Russian democracy have been revealed.
