The student movement in Russia of the second half of the XIX century was an important component of the radical left opposition movement, actively manifested itself in various forms of protest activity and participated in the work of secret underground organizations. And indeed, students as a social group have always been the most active part of society, most acutely reacting to the socio-economic situation of the country. The apogee of the student movement was the first All-Russian student strike in February 1899. But such unity of students did not happen simultaneously, because the development of the student movement is a complex and multi-stage process, which included both active ups and downs. This study examines one of the earliest bursts of student activity, which manifested itself in several major cities of the Russian Empire in 1868-1869. The study highlights the main causes and factors of the emergence of the student movement in these years, the degree of their influence on the mood of the student youth is considered.
