Environmental advantages of using fast neutron reactors

Nuclear energy is considered one of the most promising energy sources to meet the needs of society. The article considers the use of nuclear reactors in the nuclear industry as a way to generate electricity with minimal impact on the environment. Examples of fast neutron reactors are given, their operating principle is described, based on the chain reaction of fission of uranium-235 and the possibility of using uranium-238 to close the nuclear fuel cycle. Also considered are the requirements for coolants for fast neutron reactors, among which sodium and potassium stand out, which have a low melting point and high thermal conductivity, which makes them preferable for use in fast reactors. The advantages of using fast neutron reactors in relation to the environment are reflected. The article emphasizes the relevance and importance of further research in the field of nuclear energy to improve its safety and efficiency.
