The verdict of the court of first instance: the essence and grounds of the decision

The article considers the verdict of the court of first instance as the final act of justice. The essence, the requirements imposed on the sentence, as well as the grounds for the decision of the sentence are analyzed. The article examines the historical aspect of the verdict, as well as such categories as the discretion of the court in the decision of the court, legality, validity, fairness, motivation of the verdict of the court of first instance. The analysis of the resolutions of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the USSR and the Russian Federation on the issues of the verdict is carried out.
