The size of the structural elements in polycrystalline materials formed during thermomechanical processing is one of the factors determining the physical and mechanical properties of metals and alloys. The formation of the crystallographic texture and the evolution of the blockiness of the crystal structure are still little studied in rare-earth metals. The article discusses the X-ray diffraction method for studying the mosaic crystallographic structure of gadolinium. Based on the analysis of the broadening of diffraction lines, the average size of coherent scattering regions was determined. The research results can serve as a basis for analyzing the physical and mechanical properties of metal samples and studying the dynamics of structural changes during thermomechanical processing
