The article examines the topical issue of the use of physical force, special means and firearms by police officers in situations of necessary defense and extreme necessity during the performance of operational and official tasks in their professional activities. Various situations of their law enforcement practice are considered, in which many controversial issues arise during the qualification of the actions of police officers when they use physical force, special means and firearms. An analysis was carried out from judicial practice, which characterizes the inconsistency and ambiguity of the legal status of employees when solving operational and official tasks in situations of necessary defense and extreme necessity.
