This paper presents the idea of using membership functions for analytic hierarchy process (AHP). It helps experts to determine “weights” of quantitative criteria in relative units. Gaussian function is examined as a membership function for this method, its advantages and disadvantages for AHP are educed. More universal original function is suggested. Changing variable parameters, decision makers can reach appropriate shape of the curve. Influence of parameters on the curve shape, centre of symmetry and range of values is investigated. Perspectives of using those functions in analytic hierarchy process are analyzed.
