Multimedia teaching methods play a very important role in teaching Chinese language and culture to foreigners. The method of teaching Chinese language and culture to foreigners using film and television materials has already become quite widespread. Compared with feature films and documentaries, short videos from the Internet are a new video format and have unique advantages that can greatly help in the process of teaching culture. This article examines the disadvantages of using feature films and documentaries in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and also analyzes the advantages of using short videos in teaching culture. This article summarizes the principles of selecting short videos for teaching Chinese language and culture to foreigners. The choice of subject is made in accordance with the student’s Chinese language level and learning goals. The format of short videos from the Internet fits organically into the process of teaching Chinese language and culture to foreigners, and makes it possible to increase the effectiveness of classroom teaching.
