Application of overset grids for numerical solving seismical problems with grid-characteristic method

To run a simulation using overset grids method it is essential to ensure, that values are transferred between the grids, for which interpolation is used. Adapting interpolation methods for the three-dimensional case is accompanied by certain problems. Some methods, applicable in two-dimensional space, are not suitable for the three-dimensional, and some restrictions must be lifted, because they make 3D meshing way more difficult. This article compares 2D and 3D interpolation methods, discusses some problems of the latter and proposes ways of solving them.
