Sociologists, developing tools for their research, at first glance, often resort to the use of ordinary concepts that seem simple to understand, but are not so in a more detailed analysis. In this case, we are talking about words from our everyday life, which have a multi-layered and contradictory content, but are used by sociologists as something that is unambiguously interpreted both by the respondent and by the researcher himself. This approach inevitably complicates further analysis of the informants’ responses. In the article, this problem is considered on the example of such concepts as “heroism” and “justice”. Various ways of studying these phenomena are analyzed, one of which, based on the use of the method of unfinished sentences, is recognized by the author as conceptually correct for developing precise definitions of “heroism” and “justice”.
