Application of Barker rule to inorganic glasses

Constancy of the product of the square of the thermal expansion coefficient α 2 and elastic modulus in uniaxial strain E is determined for inorganic glasses. Linear correlation between E and 1/ α 2 is observed for most of the studied glasses. The nature of the relationship between harmonic and anharmonic properties of solids is discussed.
