Structures with defects such as cracks and delaminations are considered. Changes in their stiffness properties can be detected by analyzing the laws of distribution of the probable characteristics of deformations. The presence of a defect can manifest itself in the transformation of the Gaussian law of the strain distribution into a mixture of probability density distributions.
