Application of vibration analysis to detect defects in rotating mechanical elements

The paper discusses an approach that proposes, on the basis of vibration analysis, to detect the presence of a defect in parts that are part of rotating systems. The approach is based on the use of synchronous averaging of the signal over time and analysis of the envelope spectra. Computer modeling of the proposed approach is considered using the example of a two-shaft gearbox, with detection of such a defect as a chip on the driven gear. The practical application of the considered approach can be implemented in preventive maintenance, for example, of gearboxes, which contain many rotating components: gears, shafts and bearings. The computer model for the example under consideration was developed using MATLAB.
