The article studies of the principle of democracy in criminal executive law. It is proposed to improve the legislative regulation of public control and public influence on convicted persons during the execution of criminal punishment. The author considers a departmental normative legal act that regulates the participation of public organisations in the process of serving criminal sentences by convicts, also regards the legal position of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation on the obligation of officials of the penal system to inform the public about the results of their work, and gives an example of illegal release of convicts from serving their sentences. The article draws attention to the current legal uncertainty in the issues of public influence on convicts, the expediency of developing clear criteria and forms of public influence on convicts, the need to establish specific mechanisms of interaction between public organisations and correctional institutions, the creation of a system for assessing the effectiveness of public control.
