This article examines how the burial of Prince Maurice of Battenberg became a test of the strength of the influence and principles of the Imperial Commission on Military Graves, which tried to prove the legality and correctness of its approach despite the opposition of Maurices mother, Princess Beatrice, daughter of Queen Victoria. It is concluded that in order to avoid public discussions, the Commission, through the efforts of Fabian Ware, defended its basic principles, according to which Princess Beatrice was not exempt from the general rules by virtue of her royal status, but has a moral obligation to the entire Empire to accept them.
