The authors consider psychological peculiarities of making decisions by crime detection officers when performing professional tasks with indefinite reference points of the search. The problem of decision-making is studied from different psychological aspects. The article describes types of the decisions and their brief classification, outlines the importance of making decisions when performing professional tasks related to crime detection. There is a typology of situations of indefinite reference points of search arising in crime detection officers' professional activity with regard to the range of informational abundance in a certain type of situations. It is proved reasonable to study decision-making when reference points of search are indefinite. The article contains main prerequisites to experimental research of the problem under study.
