In view of the cyclical development of the economic system, it is important to find out the nature of fluctuations in order to maintain its structural equilibrium. The article describes the main approaches to studying the appearance of fluctuations that exist at this stage of economic theory development. The material characterizes fluctuations and describes the causes of the crisis in the economy.
