Destination attractiveness as a category in scientific research: a review

The term “destination attractiveness” is a widely discussed topic in many scientific works. The purpose of this study is to conduct a comprehensive review of previous research on tourism destination attractiveness in order to provide insight and clarification on the work that has been done on this diverse topic. The study evaluated 62 scientific articles on destination attractiveness published between 1974 and 2025. The results of the assessment of the distribution of destination attractiveness are presented based on four criteria: 1) research time, 2) research topic, 3) research methods, and 4) research region. The findings of this paper serve as a crucial database for future studies on destination attractiveness.
