Signs of extortion as stated in criminal legislation of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia are compared, common features and differences, positive and negative experience in lawmaking are distinguished. Special attention is paid to characteristic of information that the extorter threatens to disseminate. The author come to the conclusion that the decision reflected in the legislation of Criminal Code in Kazakhstan in the most effective. According to the Kazakhstan Criminal Code the information cannot bring harm to the rights and interests of victim and his/her relatives. The desire of a victim to keep a secret is recognized to be sufficient.
