The philosophical and anthropological analysis of the living space of a social orphan is presented in this study. The existence of a person in crisis situations is the most relevant for the existential study of the problems of building a conscious personal identity. When considering the essence of being a social orphan, the author pays special attention to the quintessence of the ideas of existential philosophizing of Russian thinkers of the XIX-XXI centuries. The existential interest in traditional ideas of Russian philosophers is manifested in the ontological understanding of the purpose and meaning of what exists in man, which is also significant for measuring modern problems of life strategies, from the point of view of the biopsychosocial self-actualization of the social orphan. The main theoretical and methodological problems of connection of the phenomenon of social orphanhood with religious and systemic categories: “faith”, “atheism”, “counteraction”, “assistance” and “neutrality” are investigated in this study.
