This article is devoted to the ideological crisis of the traditional people's parties of Germany in the context of the growing influence of left and right populism in the EU. The article examines the evolution of the doctrine of social conservatism during the chancellorship of A. Merkel, analyzes the origins of the electoral polarization of the Western and Eastern lands of post-united Germany. The author attempts to assess the prospects of consolidation of the new conservative bloc around the CSU party, as well as the possibility of dialogue between this new political center and the main parliamentary parties of Germany. In this regard, the emerging new conservatism is seen as a method of preserving the German model of social state and a way out of the emerging crisis of the party system in Germany.
