The article is devoted to the problem of hedonism in modern Russian society. This ethical teaching, having arisen in Antiquity, has undergone changes in modern conditions, nowadays it is associated with the material values, and the desire for pleasure and enjoyment. The modern type of hedonism focuses on physicality, physiology and the cult of eternal youth. Hedonism was actualized in the USA and Europe in the 1960s. Media and mass culture were the main translators of hedonism, which spread it throughout the developed world. A negative feature of modern hedonism is a decrease in the level of spiritual values, and as the result a spiritual crisis of the individual. Russia for the first time encountered the phenomenon of hedonism in the 18th century with the Peter's transformations, then it got a lot of play in century in the poetic circles of the Silver Age at the beginning of the 20th century. In the 1990s hedonism again penetrated Russian society, and in the 2000s it became widespread, due to new consumer opportunities. However, our society did not fall into the abyss of negligence and pleasures, restrained by the old (Soviet) values, the increased values of Orthodoxy, and, finally, lack of money. We should note that Russian society today is at the crossroads of values.
