The article considers the moral, spiritual component of national self-consciousness, which manifests itself, first of all, in patriotism, as the basis of the national identity of the individual. The authors, relying on the spiritual and religious concept of patriotism of the great Russian philosopher I.A. Ilyina, which outlines the key value foundations of the national worldview system and, at the same time, the most important components of spiritual and moral education and upbringing of the younger generation, studied the ideas of student youth (100 college students and 100 university students) about these components and attitudes towards them. A questionnaire developed by the authors is presented as a psychodiagnostic toolkit. The results of the study are presented, which testify to significant distortions in the ideas of young students about the religious and patriotic components of national self-consciousness. It is concluded that the proposed by I.A. Ilyin, the model of national, patriotic education is not fully realized at the present stage.
