The problem of defining the term "homo politicus" in modern Russian political science

The paper presents the author’s view on the nature of Homo politicus as the basic, long-standing cultural type of Homo sapiens which correlates with the scientific concepts of the basic and normative types of man but differs somewhat from them. The phenomenon of Homo politicus is studied in modern Russian political science at the interface between political sociology, political psychology, and political linguistics in the context of Homo loquens, political anthropology. It provides fragmented evidence. The research emphasizes the vulnerability of political theory, which is caused by the shift from the concept of Homo politicus to the “man in politics”, on the one hand, and the generality of its usage, on the other hand. Homo politicus is described on anthropological, sociological, and personal basis. The issues of Homo classifications are addressed.
