The article deals with the problem of meaning interpretation and content of the original concept of one of the most famous writers of the nineteenth century R. Ihering. His doctrine had a significant impact on the formation and development of sociological jurisprudence schools, jurisprudence of interest and free-law schools, American legal realism school, etc. The problem of interpreting the Ihering’s concept shows that it is often more or less mistakenly identified with the social theory of Marx and Darwin's theory of natural sciences. The article demonstrates the relationship and continuity of the concept of struggle for law to ideological tradition of ancient philosophy of Heraclitus and Hegel's philosophy.
