The problem of understanding meanings in the art of symbolism

This article actualizes the topic of understanding meanings in the art of symbolism. To solve this problem, the thesis is substantiated on the need for knowledge and understanding by the researcher of the meanings of the philosophy of irrationalism, which is the ideological basis of the art of symbolism, in order to read its “hidden” meanings, taking into account the specificity of the artistic method of symbolization, where a symbol is understood as a function. It is this understanding of the essence of the symbol that embodies the possibility of a not formal, but logically justified approach to its study in art. Hermeneutical logic is used in the article as the main methodological toolkit as applied to the work of M. Čiurlionis.
