Vulgarity problem: views of N.V. Gogol and V.V. Nabokov

The article is devoted to V.V. Nabokov's perception of the vulgarity problem in the context of N.V. Gogol's ideas. The issue of semantics of concept “vulgarity” in classic and modern literature study is under research, the author comprehends perception of history by the writers belonging to different epochs. The analysis of peculiar features of individual artistic and aesthetic vision of this problem is given. A special place is devoted to V.V. Nabokov's and N.V. Gogol's publicism on this issue. Identified the similarities and differences of the N.V. Gogol and V.V. Nabokov approaches to the problem.
