The problem of cultural preservation based on the material of «Journeys to holy places in 1830» by A.N. Muravyov

The article analyzes the problem of monument preservation. The understanding of the basic concepts in this scientific field took place in Russia in the first half of the 19th century. At that moment, ideas about the preservation of cultural heritage were born. The source in this article is "Pilgrimage to holy places in 1830" by A.N. Muravyov's book, which presents all the terms existing at that time in the field of protection of archaeological and cultural monuments, gives their typological characteristics, and also examines and analyzes the author's approach to the study and preservation of heritage, which, in turn, can be correlated with the development of scientific thought about culture in Russia.
