This article characterizes the basic steps of studying the stylistic origins of Ural's Old Believer's icon painting. While analyzing the researches a special attention was given to their original and methodological basics, which made it possible to trace the process of changing the approaches to Ural's icon painting from specifically art critical to complex, which included both art critical and historical methods of research.
