The article analyzes the problems of the subject and the preservation of cultural memory in a postindustrial society, which is characterized by the widespread use of information technology. In the predigital era, subjects of cultural memory included the state, the media and individuals at the national or global level. The use of digital technologies has led to the fact that in a postindustrial society, almost any person can influence the formation of cultural memory, i.e., be its subject. For any nation that not only communicates with its historical past, but also builds prospects for future development, one of the most important is the problem of preserving cultural memory. The information society has developed new forms of preserving cultural memory related to the specifics of its culture. At the same time, the preservation of cultural memory in modern society is associated with such difficulties as the reinterpretation of works of art, which can lead to a change in the values contained in them, the possibility of not only preserving, but also losing it, as well as the influence of political upheavals on it.
