The article examines the problem of power in the novel “Resurrection” by Leo Tolstoy, it is proved that the writer found in the “War and Peace” a special breadth in the depiction of life, embodied in the genre of the epic novel, was realized by him in the novel “Resurrection”, but in a different situation, relying on other, deeper foundations. In “War and Peace”, an external threat is presented, which was one of the foundations for creating an epic scale. In the novel “Resurrection” there is also a basis for a similar image: Tolstoy shows the situation of a deep social crisis, the extinction of the people, and the state’s position on the verge of global transformations. The article proves that in the semantic organization of a particular epic scale of the novel, it is the image of power that plays a huge role, its various implementations are analyzed, the correlation of which allows you to see the concept of the writer. The author of the work demonstrates that the concept of power is one of the keys in organizing the spiritual uplift and rebirth of Dmitry Nekhlyudov, who is gradually and painfully relinquishing his power over others and former luxury and recognizing the highest will of God. Using a number of examples in the article, it is shown that the problem of power in the novel “Resurrection” is connected with the system of global denials by the late Tolstoy of the exploitative nature of the upper world, the denunciation of officials, their formal, official life, and at the same time with the confirmation of the individual’s will to choose their spiritual path, with religious consciousness, presented in the novel.
